What to know before purchasing: An LED is a semiconductor light-emitting device. Selecting and buying an LED requires both electrical and optical information; package size or a general color name alone may not define a suitable part.

LED for PCB and Product Projects

Indicator and signal LEDs

Specify the desired color or wavelength, package, viewing angle and brightness at the relevant current. Check polarity and orientation against the PCB drawing and enclosure window.

White and lighting LEDs

Record color temperature, color-rendering requirements and accepted bins where needed. A compatible package is not sufficient if the finished product depends on color consistency or a specific optical output.

Infrared and specialty emitters

Identify wavelength, drive conditions, optical pattern and any matching receiver requirement. Keep the device and application specification together rather than selecting only by physical size.

100% New, Original, Genuine Components

OrinewPCB’s supply commitment covers the electronic components we sell and the components we supply for our turnkey PCB assembly builds. We do not supply used, refurbished or remarked components.

We work with component manufacturers and distribution partners to offer competitive purchasing and lead-time options. Our reputation is built around supplying the approved parts and communicating the actual purchasing conditions clearly.

Tell us your required date/lot conditions, packing, labeling or supporting documentation before ordering so the available evidence and requirements can be confirmed for the quotation. We do not replace a released BOM part with an unapproved alternative.

LED Specification and Purchasing Checklist

Use the approved manufacturer data and your released design to define the requirement. The following inputs help us prepare a useful quotation and identify questions that need engineering approval.

Confirm the exact part and the conditions that matter to your build
InputWhat to specifyWhy it matters
Full part numberManufacturer and complete orderable code.Optical and packing variants may share a product family.
Optical requirementsColor/wavelength, CCT/CRI where applicable, brightness and viewing angle. The optical requirement depends on the intended indicator or lighting function.
BinningApproved chromaticity, flux and forward-voltage bins where relevant.Accepted bins should be explicit when consistency matters.
Electrical conditionsForward current, voltage and drive method from the approved design.A device’s maximum rating is not a complete operating specification.
Package and polarityFootprint, lens arrangement, polarity marking and height.Mechanical and assembly orientation must match the design.
Thermal and packingHeat-path requirements, reflow/handling instructions and packing.Lighting performance and assembly depend on more than nominal power.

Preserve the Optical Requirement During Sourcing

If brightness or color uniformity matters, release the accepted optical bins with the BOM. Review the LED’s operating current and thermal requirements with the driver and board design. Do not replace a lighting LED using only package dimensions or a headline lumen value measured under different conditions.

Prepare a LED Quotation

  1. Send the approved requirement

Provide full manufacturer part numbers or the BOM revision, quantity basis, packing and destination. Identify open specifications and any fixed constraints.

  2. Review the sourcing options

Confirm quoted identity, quantity, price, availability and lead time. Review proposed alternatives separately and approve changes before the order or build is released.

  3. Connect purchasing to the build

For turnkey PCBA, align the BOM with fabrication files, placement data and the assembly drawing. Define programming and testing needs explicitly.

Example Inquiry Wording

Please quote the exact LED part number and accepted bin requirements in our BOM. Color and package changes require approval. Include quantities, packing and schedule options, plus assembly of the attached LED board revision. The drive and test conditions are listed in the build notes.

Illustrative inquiry, not a customer case or a standard delivery promise.

LED Sourcing FAQs

Why do LED bins matter when purchasing parts?

Manufacturers may sort LEDs by properties such as chromaticity, optical output and forward voltage. If the product needs consistent appearance or electrical behavior, define the acceptable bins or bin combinations in the purchasing requirement.

Can two white LEDs with the same package be exchanged?

Not on that evidence alone. Compare the approved optical output, color requirements, electrical operating conditions, thermal arrangement, polarity and mechanical details before approving the alternative.

Can you source and assemble the complete LED board?

Request a turnkey PCB assembly quotation with the PCB files, BOM, placement data and assembly instructions. Specify polarity, binning and the lighting test procedure so the complete build scope can be reviewed.

Are the components supplied by OrinewPCB new and genuine?

Our supply commitment is 100% new, original, genuine electronic components. It also applies to components we supply for our turnkey PCB assembly builds. We do not supply used, refurbished or remarked parts.

How are pricing and lead times confirmed?

Send the exact part number, quantity, packaging, destination and requested date. Our manufacturer and distributor relationships support competitive sourcing options; actual price, availability and lead time are confirmed for the quoted items and quantities.

What should I send for a components or turnkey PCBA quote?

For components, send exact manufacturer part numbers or a BOM with quantities and requirements. For turnkey assembly, add PCB fabrication files, placement data and the assembly drawing. Include any programming and testing scope before production is released.
