ORINEWPCB · PACKAGE AND PCB REVIEW
Package-on-Package (PoP) PCB Assembly
Discuss a PCB assembly project using stacked IC packages. Send the exact top and bottom devices, board files and assembly requirements so package compatibility, process preparation and the available build scope can be reviewed before quotation.
Request fabrication and BOM sourcing with assembly when you need a one-stop build.
WHAT POP ASSEMBLY MEANS
Packaged ICs connect vertically above the board.
Package-on-package places one packaged IC above a compatible bottom package. A common arrangement combines an applications processor and a memory package. The device pair and its assembly requirements need to be checked together; packages are not interchangeable simply because their size looks similar.
Include the surrounding PCB and BOM in the review. Fabrication, component procurement, assembly preparation and tests affect the complete build scope.

PREPARATION BEFORE A COMMITMENT
Review the actual device pair and board.
Device compatibility
Provide exact manufacturer part numbers, package drawings and the approved processor/memory combination. Flag purchasing restrictions and supplied devices.
Assembly preparation
Share the device assembly guidance and board data. Process selection, deposition, handling and thermal requirements need review for the specific package combination.
Inspection & validation
Define required checks, access, programming and functional tests. Include acceptance criteria and any reporting or fixture requirements.
Package-specific process feasibility, preparation and service availability must be confirmed for the submitted design before a build is accepted.
START THE PROJECT REVIEW
Discuss your PoP PCBA requirements.
For a one-stop request, include fabrication and component sourcing with the proposed assembly scope. Identify the exact stacked devices and the information already available.
- Top and bottom device part numbers and drawings
- Approved board revision, Gerber files, BOM and placement data
- Build quantity, target date and destination
- Supplied parts and any sourcing or handling restrictions
- Programming, inspection, functional tests and reporting
Files can follow by email. The team needs to review the specific package and board requirements before confirming availability, price and schedule.
Tell us about your stacked-package build.
Email is required; service, quantity, requirements and files are optional for an initial discussion.
FILES AND REQUIREMENTS
Connect the packaging information to the PCB build.
| Area | Include in the request |
|---|---|
| Package pair | Exact part numbers, package drawings, compatible-device information and applicable assembly guidance |
| PCB construction | Fabrication files, stack-up, finish, footprint and relevant layout requirements |
| BOM & materials | Reference designators, quantities per board, supplied parts, approved alternatives and sourcing restrictions |
| Assembly data | Placement, orientation, drawings, package heights and any special handling requirements |
| Validation | Programming instructions, test procedure, pass/fail criteria, fixtures and reporting |
Compare the complete quoted scope, including preparation and tests, rather than a package-placement price alone.

POP PROJECT QUESTIONS
Before releasing a stacked-package build.
Can I combine any processor and memory package?
No. Provide the exact device pair and compatible-package information for review. Similar dimensions alone do not establish electrical or assembly compatibility.
Is one assembly process appropriate for every PoP device?
Process selection depends on the specific devices, board and applicable manufacturer guidance. Review the relevant deposition, handling and thermal requirements before the build scope is confirmed.
Does PoP always improve power consumption or signal performance?
The result depends on the devices and complete design. Package stacking is a construction choice; electrical and thermal performance need application-specific review and validation.
Can fabrication and BOM sourcing be included?
Include those requirements in a full turnkey request. Identify supplied materials and approved part numbers so the fabrication, procurement and proposed assembly responsibilities can be reviewed together.
How do I obtain a project quote?
Send the exact package pair, PCB and assembly files, quantity and test requirements. Service availability, preparation, price and schedule are confirmed for the specific design after review.
