Double-Sided PCB Manufacturing

ORINEWPCB · FABRICATION TO TURNKEY ASSEMBLY

A double-sided PCB has copper circuitry on both faces of a substrate, with connections between sides commonly made through plated holes. It is also called a two-layer PCB. This describes the bare-board construction; fitting components on both sides is a separate assembly decision.

Decide whether two copper layers meet the circuit requirements

Two layers can be practical for many designs, but layer count alone does not determine performance or total cost. Review routing, return paths, power distribution, component density and mechanical constraints. If the design requires a more complex stack-up, compare that route before forcing the layout onto two layers.

Requirements to resolve before placing an order
Decision Send or confirm Why it matters
Routing and reference paths Circuit requirements, critical nets and the planned copper arrangement. Confirm that the two-layer layout meets the electrical design needs.
Holes and interconnection Plated/non-plated drill data, finished-hole needs and slots. Drill and drawing information must distinguish electrical and mechanical features.
Copper and current paths Finished copper requirements, conductor geometry and thermal constraints. A two-layer description alone does not define current capacity.
One- or two-side assembly Component population on each face and orientation requirements. Two copper layers do not automatically mean two soldering operations.
Mechanical and delivery needs Outline, mounting points, thickness, panelization and delivery batches. Check board fit and the assembly interface before approving fabrication.

Separate bare-board fabrication from double-sided assembly

A two-layer PCB may have components on one face or both. Equally, a multilayer PCB may use single- or double-sided assembly. Tell us which component sides are populated, identify heavy or sensitive parts, and provide the assembly drawing. The actual soldering sequence and support requirements are reviewed for that design.

  1. Release both copper layers, solder mask, legend, drill data and board outline together.
  2. Identify finished holes, edge features, mounting constraints and required tolerances.
  3. Choose bare-board supply or add BOM sourcing and assembly.
  4. For populated boards, supply placement data for the relevant sides and do-not-fit positions.
  5. Agree electrical/functional tests for the assembled circuit separately from the bare-board check.

Every bare PCB receives flying-probe electrical testing

OrinewPCB flying-probe tests every bare PCB we manufacture, not just a sample. This checks the conductive networks against the electrical test data. Include your netlist where available and identify any required test parameters or records in the RFQ.

An electrical pass does not establish every physical characteristic, controlled impedance, RF performance, thermal reliability or finished-product function. Specify those requirements and any additional evidence separately. This keeps the acceptance scope clear before fabrication begins.

From bare boards to genuine-component turnkey PCBA

Keep the fabrication, BOM purchasing and assembly review connected when you need a finished assembly. Small-to-medium batches and high-mix turnkey PCB assembly are a particular OrinewPCB strength. List quantities and differences for each design or variant so the release is unambiguous.

We supply and use 100% brand-new, original, genuine electronic components for customers’ turnkey assemblies. Our cooperation with manufacturers and distributors helps us seek competitive BOM pricing and practical lead times. Exact MPNs, current availability, permitted sources and delivery dates are checked for your project; alternatives require customer approval.

Nine PCBA quality stages with an agreed test scope

When the order includes assembly, our quality workflow covers nine stages. The applicable inspection plan and evidence are agreed for the actual build:

  1. IQC: incoming materials.
  2. SPI: solder paste inspection.
  3. Online AOI: in-line optical inspection.
  4. SMI: first-article inspection.
  5. IPQC: in-process quality checks.
  6. Offline AOI: post-solder optical inspection.
  7. X-ray: hidden joints to the agreed scope.
  8. Manual QC: workmanship review.
  9. Pre-shipment QA: identification, quantity and packaging.

These are nine quality stages, not nine functional tests. Programming, ICT, functional testing or application-specific validation need an agreed procedure, access or fixtures, and pass/fail criteria. See our factory and quality workflow.

Plan delivery from the complete release package

We work toward the earliest practical delivery for the approved scope. Send the required quantity, design variants and target date, and state whether it means production completion, dispatch or arrival. Materials, engineering questions, assembly preparation and agreed tests all affect the confirmed schedule.

Compare quotations using the same material, revision, sourcing responsibility and acceptance scope. A lower bare-board or placement line item is not automatically a lower complete project cost.

Request a double-sided PCB review

Send OrinewPCB your files and tell us what you need: bare boards, BOM sourcing or a complete turnkey assembly. Files are optional for an initial discussion.

  • Board files, drawing revision and special material or construction requirements
  • Quantity per design or variant and repeat-order expectations
  • BOM with full MPNs, placement and assembly drawings if assembly is needed
  • Inspection, programming, functional-test and documentation requirements
  • Target date, delivery destination and any staged shipment needs

Double Side PCB questions

Does double-sided PCB mean components on both sides?

Not necessarily. It means copper circuitry on both faces of the bare board. Component population on one or both sides is a separate assembly requirement.

Is a two-layer PCB always the lowest-cost complete solution?

No. The complete cost also depends on routing complexity, board area, assembly, sourcing and verification. A different stack-up may be appropriate when it better meets the design requirements.

Can I order a small mixed batch of two-layer assemblies?

Yes. Small-to-medium, high-mix turnkey builds are a particular OrinewPCB strength. Provide quantity and matching files for each variant so fabrication, materials and assembly can be reviewed together.
