What to know before purchasing: A relay uses a control input to switch another circuit. Electromechanical and solid-state relay types have different operating characteristics. Procurement needs the correct control requirements, contact or output configuration, load ratings and PCB footprint.

Relay for PCB and Product Projects

Signal and interface relays

Specify the contact arrangement and the signal or load being switched. Low-level signal use can need different contact characteristics from power switching; a high headline current rating is not enough.

PCB power relays

Confirm coil requirements, contact configuration and the actual load type. Resistive, inductive and inrush loads can place different demands on the relay and its expected electrical life.

Latching and solid-state options

Identify whether the design requires a maintained state, a latching mechanism or a solid-state output. Review drive/control requirements, output behavior, leakage and thermal conditions as applicable.

100% New, Original, Genuine Components

OrinewPCB’s supply commitment covers the electronic components we sell and the components we supply for our turnkey PCB assembly builds. We do not supply used, refurbished or remarked components.

We work with component manufacturers and distribution partners to offer competitive purchasing and lead-time options. Our reputation is built around supplying the approved parts and communicating the actual purchasing conditions clearly.

Tell us your required date/lot conditions, packing, labeling or supporting documentation before ordering so the available evidence and requirements can be confirmed for the quotation. We do not replace a released BOM part with an unapproved alternative.

Relay Specification and Purchasing Checklist

Use the approved manufacturer data and your released design to define the requirement. The following inputs help us prepare a useful quotation and identify questions that need engineering approval.

Confirm the exact part and the conditions that matter to your build
InputWhat to specifyWhy it matters
Part number and relay typeExact manufacturer code and electromechanical/solid-state type.Different technologies have different drive and output behavior.
Coil or control inputRated control supply and relevant drive requirements. The relay must work with the board’s actual driver circuit.
Contact/output arrangementPole/throw, normally open/closed and latching behavior if applicable. An identical outline does not guarantee the same switching function.
Load conditionsAC/DC voltage, current, load type and inrush.Contact ratings must be interpreted for the stated application.
Life and environmentRequired operating life, temperature and sealing/process constraints.Use conditions affect life and permitted assembly processes.
Footprint and isolation needsPin layout, dimensions and project-specific isolation requirements.Mechanical and circuit requirements must match the selected device.

Keep Coil Ratings Separate from Contact Ratings

The coil or control input determines how the relay is driven; the contact or output rating describes what it can switch under specified conditions. Specify both. Review the actual resistive, inductive or inrush load and the manufacturer’s application guidance before approving a substitute.

Prepare a Relay Quotation

  1. Send the approved requirement

Provide full manufacturer part numbers or the BOM revision, quantity basis, packing and destination. Identify open specifications and any fixed constraints.

  2. Review the sourcing options

Confirm quoted identity, quantity, price, availability and lead time. Review proposed alternatives separately and approve changes before the order or build is released.

  3. Connect purchasing to the build

For turnkey PCBA, align the BOM with fabrication files, placement data and the assembly drawing. Define programming and testing needs explicitly.

Example Inquiry Wording

Please quote the exact PCB relay in our BOM. Coil supply, contact arrangement, load conditions and footprint are defined in the attached notes. Changes require engineering approval. Include component sourcing and assembly for the matching control-board revision.

Relay Sourcing FAQs

Can a higher-current relay automatically replace the original?

No. Check the coil/control input, contact arrangement, load type, dimensions, pin mapping, life and relevant isolation or environmental requirements. A larger headline rating does not establish a compatible replacement.

Why must I specify AC or DC and the type of load?

Relay ratings and life are tied to stated switching conditions. A resistive-load rating is not a universal rating for inductive or high-inrush loads. Use the exact product’s applicable data for the actual load.

Can relay sourcing include PCB assembly and testing?

Yes. Request the complete turnkey scope and provide the PCB files, BOM, placement data and assembly drawing. Define any switching or functional test and the required pass/fail limits separately.

Are the components supplied by OrinewPCB new and genuine?

Our supply commitment is 100% new, original, genuine electronic components. It also applies to components we supply for our turnkey PCB assembly builds. We do not supply used, refurbished or remarked parts.

How are pricing and lead times confirmed?

Send the exact part number, quantity, packaging, destination and requested date. Our manufacturer and distributor relationships support competitive sourcing options; actual price, availability and lead time are confirmed for the quoted items and quantities.

What should I send for a components or turnkey PCBA quote?

For components, send exact manufacturer part numbers or a BOM with quantities and requirements. For turnkey assembly, add PCB fabrication files, placement data and the assembly drawing. Include any programming and testing scope before production is released.
