ORINEWPCB · FABRICATION TO TURNKEY ASSEMBLY

Prototype PCB manufacturing turns a released layout into boards for engineering evaluation. For a useful first build, define what the prototype must prove, keep fabrication and assembly files at the same revision, and agree which checks belong to the bare board and which belong to the assembled circuit.

Choose bare-board prototypes or an assembled engineering build

A bare PCB order helps you inspect fabrication and assemble or evaluate the design yourself. A turnkey prototype combines board fabrication, component sourcing and assembly under an agreed release package. Neither route automatically proves firmware behavior, product compliance or every operating condition.

Requirements to resolve before placing an order
Decision Send or confirm Why it matters
Bare-board prototype Gerber/drill files, fabrication drawing and any stack-up or impedance requirements. You control component purchasing, assembly and circuit validation separately.
Turnkey PCBA prototype Board files plus BOM, placement data, assembly drawing and do-not-fit instructions. We can review fabrication, sourcing and assembly together; electrical tests need a defined scope.
Several design variants Quantity and differences for each BOM, firmware or population variant. Avoid mixing nearly identical revisions or assuming one build instruction covers all units.
Prototype intended for production Expected repeat demand, critical components and planned acceptance criteria. Review sourcing and manufacturing choices early to reduce avoidable changes at the next build.

Make the prototype answer a specific engineering question

Write down the purpose of this build: checking an enclosure fit, validating a power stage, evaluating an RF path or preparing a customer demonstration. These are different acceptance tasks. A board can pass its bare-board electrical check while still requiring assembly, programming and product-level validation.

  1. Freeze the design revision and name the files consistently.
  2. List known risks, critical dimensions and bring-up access such as connectors or test points.
  3. Provide full component MPNs and identify substitutions that require your approval.
  4. Agree first-article feedback, programming and any functional procedure before assembly.
  5. Record what changed after evaluation and release a controlled revision for the next batch.

Every bare PCB receives flying-probe electrical testing

OrinewPCB flying-probe tests every bare PCB we manufacture, not just a sample. This checks the conductive networks against the electrical test data. Include your netlist where available and identify any required test parameters or records in the RFQ.

An electrical pass does not establish every physical characteristic, controlled impedance, RF performance, thermal reliability or finished-product function. Specify those requirements and any additional evidence separately. This keeps the acceptance scope clear before fabrication begins.

From bare boards to genuine-component turnkey PCBA

Keep the fabrication, BOM purchasing and assembly review connected when you need a finished assembly. Small-to-medium batches and high-mix turnkey PCB assembly are a particular OrinewPCB strength. List quantities and differences for each design or variant so the release is unambiguous.

We supply and use 100% brand-new, original, genuine electronic components for customers’ turnkey assemblies. Our cooperation with manufacturers and distributors helps us seek competitive BOM pricing and practical lead times. Exact MPNs, current availability, permitted sources and delivery dates are checked for your project; alternatives require customer approval.

Nine PCBA quality stages with an agreed test scope

When the order includes assembly, our quality workflow covers nine stages. The applicable inspection plan and evidence are agreed for the actual build:

  1. IQC: incoming materials.
  2. SPI: solder paste inspection.
  3. Online AOI: in-line optical inspection.
  4. SMI: first-article inspection.
  5. IPQC: in-process quality checks.
  6. Offline AOI: post-solder optical inspection.
  7. X-ray: hidden joints to the agreed scope.
  8. Manual QC: workmanship review.
  9. Pre-shipment QA: identification, quantity and packaging.

These are nine quality stages, not nine functional tests. Programming, ICT, functional testing or application-specific validation need an agreed procedure, access or fixtures, and pass/fail criteria. See our factory and quality workflow.

Plan delivery from the complete release package

We work toward the earliest practical delivery for the approved scope. Send the required quantity, design variants and target date, and state whether it means production completion, dispatch or arrival. Materials, engineering questions, assembly preparation and agreed tests all affect the confirmed schedule.

Compare quotations using the same material, revision, sourcing responsibility and acceptance scope. A lower bare-board or placement line item is not automatically a lower complete project cost.

Request a Prototype PCB review

Send OrinewPCB your files and tell us what you need: bare boards, BOM sourcing or a complete turnkey assembly. Files are optional for an initial discussion.

  • Board files, drawing revision and special material or construction requirements
  • Quantity per design or variant and repeat-order expectations
  • BOM with full MPNs, placement and assembly drawings if assembly is needed
  • Inspection, programming, functional-test and documentation requirements
  • Target date, delivery destination and any staged shipment needs

For direct email: [email protected]. A quote request does not authorize purchasing, substitutions or production.

Prototype PCB questions

Does a tested prototype PCB mean the circuit will work?

No. Bare-board electrical testing checks the manufactured conductive networks against the test data. Component selection, assembly, firmware and circuit behavior require their own verification.

Can you quote several prototype variants together?

Yes. Give each variant a clear identifier, quantity and matching files. Mark population, BOM or firmware differences so the sourcing and assembly scope can be reviewed accurately.

How quickly can you deliver prototype boards?

We seek the earliest practical schedule after reviewing the files, materials, quantity and required checks. For assembled prototypes, component availability and test preparation also affect the date. State whether your deadline means dispatch or arrival.
