What to know before purchasing: A PCB switch changes an electrical contact state through actuation or a defined detection mechanism. Tactile, slide, DIP and other electromechanical switches are different components from a switching power supply; their procurement requirements center on contacts, actuation and mechanical fit.

Switch for PCB and Product Projects

Tactile and pushbutton switches

Specify momentary or maintained action, actuator height, travel, force and mounting style. The enclosure button and PCB location must work together across the product’s mechanical tolerances.

DIP and slide switches

Identify the contact arrangement, number of positions and operating configuration. Check pin mapping and access after assembly so the switch can be set and used in the finished product.

Detect and limit switches

Record the actuation direction, travel and contact function. Review the mechanism that operates the switch and any sealing or life requirement needed for the intended environment.

100% New, Original, Genuine Components

OrinewPCB’s supply commitment covers the electronic components we sell and the components we supply for our turnkey PCB assembly builds. We do not supply used, refurbished or remarked components.

We work with component manufacturers and distribution partners to offer competitive purchasing and lead-time options. Our reputation is built around supplying the approved parts and communicating the actual purchasing conditions clearly.

Tell us your required date/lot conditions, packing, labeling or supporting documentation before ordering so the available evidence and requirements can be confirmed for the quotation. We do not replace a released BOM part with an unapproved alternative.

Switch Specification and Purchasing Checklist

Use the approved manufacturer data and your released design to define the requirement. The following inputs help us prepare a useful quotation and identify questions that need engineering approval.

Confirm the exact part and the conditions that matter to your build
InputWhat to specifyWhy it matters
Contact functionPole/throw arrangement and normally open/closed state as applicable. The same outline can contain a different contact arrangement.
Action and feelMomentary/maintained operation, force and travel.User-interface behavior and mechanism fit must be approved.
DimensionsActuator height, orientation, outline and footprint.Mechanical fit is not established by pad spacing alone.
Electrical ratingApplicable voltage/current and load conditions.A low-level signal switch is not automatically a power-load switch.
Environment and lifeSealing requirements, temperature and required operating life.Ratings and life depend on the product and application conditions.
Assembly processSMT/THT format, packing and soldering/cleaning instructions. The process must be compatible with the selected switch.

Review the Mechanical Interface Alongside the Circuit

A replacement switch can preserve the schematic function while changing the button height or feel. Keep the enclosure drawing, contact arrangement and assembly instructions linked to the exact part number. If washing, sealing or a special soldering process is required, check the manufacturer’s instructions for that specific switch.

Prepare a Switch Quotation

  1. Send the approved requirement

Provide full manufacturer part numbers or the BOM revision, quantity basis, packing and destination. Identify open specifications and any fixed constraints.

  2. Review the sourcing options

Confirm quoted identity, quantity, price, availability and lead time. Review proposed alternatives separately and approve changes before the order or build is released.

  3. Connect purchasing to the build

For turnkey PCBA, align the BOM with fabrication files, placement data and the assembly drawing. Define programming and testing needs explicitly.

Example Inquiry Wording

Please quote the approved switch part numbers for our control-board build. Contact function, actuator height and actuation force must match the released design. Flag changes for approval and confirm packing. Include PCB assembly from the attached BOM and mechanical notes.

Illustrative inquiry, not a customer case or a standard delivery promise.

Switch Sourcing FAQs

Is this page about switching power supplies?

No. This page covers PCB switches such as tactile, pushbutton, DIP, slide and detect switches. See our power-supply sourcing page for AC-DC supplies and DC-DC modules.

What is needed to approve an alternative tactile switch?

Check contact function, mounting footprint, actuator dimensions, travel, operating force, electrical rating and relevant environmental or life requirements. Confirm its fit with the actual enclosure mechanism.

Can PCB switches be included in turnkey assembly?

Yes. Include the exact switch part numbers in the BOM and show their orientation and any mechanical constraints in the assembly drawing. Specify any manual insertion or additional process requirement for review.

Are the components supplied by OrinewPCB new and genuine?

Our supply commitment is 100% new, original, genuine electronic components. It also applies to components we supply for our turnkey PCB assembly builds. We do not supply used, refurbished or remarked parts.

How are pricing and lead times confirmed?

Send the exact part number, quantity, packaging, destination and requested date. Our manufacturer and distributor relationships support competitive sourcing options; actual price, availability and lead time are confirmed for the quoted items and quantities.

What should I send for a components or turnkey PCBA quote?

For components, send exact manufacturer part numbers or a BOM with quantities and requirements. For turnkey assembly, add PCB fabrication files, placement data and the assembly drawing. Include any programming and testing scope before production is released.

Send Your Part List. Plan the Complete Build.

Ask OrinewPCB for switch pricing and lead-time options—or include the complete BOM and PCB files for turnkey assembly. Tell us your quantity, requested date and the requirements your engineering team needs to preserve.
