ORINEWPCB · COMPONENTS ON BOTH SIDES
Double-Sided PCB Assembly
Build compact boards with components on the top and bottom surfaces. Request PCB fabrication, BOM sourcing and double-sided assembly together, with inspection and testing defined for your project.
Send your BOM and placement data for both sides, build quantity and target date.
WHAT DOUBLE-SIDED ASSEMBLY MEANS
Components are populated on both board surfaces.
Double-sided PCB assembly places and solders components on the top and bottom faces of a board. Assembly sides and copper-layer count describe different features: a multilayer PCB can also require components on both sides.
One coordinated material plan
Combine bare-board fabrication, the agreed BOM procurement and assembly in a full turnkey PCBA request, or identify the materials you will supply.
Placement data for both sides
Provide reference designators, coordinates, rotations and top/bottom identification. Keep assembly drawings, the BOM and PCB files on the same revision.
Checks matched to the build
Define inspection, programming and functional test needs. Discuss fixture access and acceptance criteria before the production scope is approved.
ENGINEERING REVIEW BEFORE PRODUCTION
Plan the second side before the first side is assembled.
For a two-pass SMT build, assembly sequence and the thermal exposure of first-side components need review. Package-specific handling and soldering requirements guide the process; a generic reflow recipe cannot cover every board.
Component suitability
Flag heavy packages, connectors, modules and temperature-sensitive parts. Check their manufacturer assembly requirements when reviewing side assignment and the build sequence.
Support & handling
Share component heights, board shape, panel requirements and any restrictions on supporting the populated side. Identify areas that must stay accessible during assembly.
Inspection & test access
Mark test points, programming connectors and fixture contact areas. Discuss how components on both faces affect inspection, programming and functional testing.
SEND A CONSISTENT BUILD PACKAGE
What we need for your double-sided PCBA quote.
| Item | What to include |
|---|---|
| PCB fabrication | Gerber and NC drill files, outline, stack-up, finish and fabrication notes |
| BOM | Full manufacturer part numbers, reference designators, quantity per board and do-not-fit positions |
| Placement | Coordinates, rotation, origin and assembly side for each populated position |
| Assembly drawings | Top and bottom views, polarity, connector orientation, mechanical notes and variants |
| Build scope | Quantity, full or partial turnkey responsibilities, target date and destination |
| Inspection & testing | Required checks, firmware, test procedure, fixture needs and pass/fail criteria |
If placement data is incomplete, describe what you have so the team can identify the information needed for a final quote.
QUOTE THE COMPLETE BUILD
Understand the cost and schedule drivers.
Build quantity, BOM availability, the components on each side, handling requirements and agreed tests affect a double-sided assembly quote. Setup and fixture preparation can matter especially for a small first batch. Compare the complete scope when reviewing suppliers.

START YOUR TURNKEY PCBA REQUEST
Request a double-sided PCB assembly quote.
Tell us whether you need full turnkey support, partial turnkey or assembly using supplied materials. Include the top and bottom assembly requirements in your project package.
- Prototype quantity and any planned production batch
- PCB files, BOM and placement data for both sides
- Supplied parts, approved alternatives and do-not-fit positions
- Target date, destination and any special handling requirements
- Inspection, programming and functional test scope
Email is required; files and the other fields are optional for an initial discussion. A request does not authorize purchasing or production.

PROJECT QUESTIONS
Before sending your double-sided assembly files.
Does double-sided assembly mean a two-layer PCB?
The assembly description identifies components on both board faces. Copper-layer count is a separate fabrication specification. Include both the stack-up and top/bottom assembly data in your request.
Can I request full turnkey double-sided PCB assembly?
Yes. Send fabrication files, the BOM and placement data for both sides. Define any supplied components and the inspection, programming or test requirements for review in the quote.
Can every component go through a second reflow cycle?
Suitability depends on the specific package and its manufacturer requirements, along with the assembly process. Flag sensitive modules or other restricted parts so side assignment and sequence can be reviewed.
Can the board include through-hole parts as well?
Include them in the BOM and drawings, with polarity and mechanical requirements. The assembly sequence and soldering method need review for the complete mixed-technology board.
What if I only need a small first batch?
Send the prototype quantity and the expected next batch. Identify the files and test preparation already available so setup, sourcing and production can be reviewed together.
