Ceramic PCB Manufacturing & Assembly Review
Start a ceramic circuit project with a clear substrate and assembly specification. OrinewPCB reviews your material, metallization, component BOM and joining requirements before confirming the manufacturing and turnkey assembly scope.
A ceramic PCB uses a ceramic substrate, such as alumina or aluminum nitride, with a defined conductive structure. The ceramic grade, metallization process and assembly method must be specified together. It is not simply a metal-core PCB with a different base name.
Choose the ceramic and conductive structure together
Ceramic materials differ in thermal conductivity, expansion, electrical behavior and mechanical properties. Alumina and aluminum nitride are distinct choices, not interchangeable specifications. Use the exact grade and its relevant datasheet conditions. A ceramic material value does not establish the performance of a finished assembly.
| Review item | What to provide | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Ceramic grade | Material, composition/grade, thickness and relevant thermal/electrical properties. | The substrate family alone is not a complete specification. |
| Conductive structure | Required metallization method, conductor, thickness, finish and pattern. | Thin-film, thick-film or bonded-metal requirements are different manufacturing routes; confirm project feasibility. |
| Mechanical details | Outline, flatness, holes, slots, edge condition and handling/mounting constraints. | Ceramic handling and stress constraints need a design-specific review. |
| Joining and components | Soldering, bonding or other joining requirement, exact BOM and process limits. | The surface, components and joining method need to be compatible. |
| Acceptance | Electrical networks, visual/dimensional checks and any thermal, isolation or functional tests. | Define the evidence and limits rather than assuming one inspection proves all properties. |

Confirm manufacturability before releasing a specialized substrate
Send the substrate drawing and conductive pattern together. Identify pads that need a particular finish or joining process and surfaces that must remain free of contamination or damage. If a specific DBC, AMB, thin-film or thick-film process is required, state it for feasibility and sourcing review; a generic ceramic PCB description does not confirm that process availability.
- Identify the exact ceramic grade and controlled drawing revision.
- Specify the conductive process, finish and pad/joining requirements.
- Mark critical dimensions, surface conditions and handling restrictions.
- Provide exact components and any customer-required joining or cleaning instructions.
- Agree the prototype acceptance point, required records and test method before repeating the build.
Avoid mixing substrate properties with product guarantees
Aluminum nitride is often considered when heat conduction is important, while alumina is used across many electronic substrate applications. The grade, structure and assembled thermal interfaces still matter. Expansion matching must be evaluated against the actual attached materials and temperature cycle. Confirm the complete construction and validation plan instead of treating every ceramic as universally heat-proof, unbreakable or equivalent to silicon.

Quality from the bare PCB to the finished assembly
Every bare PCB we manufacture receives flying-probe electrical testing, not just a sample. Include the netlist where available and identify the required electrical-test records in your RFQ. Bare-board electrical testing checks manufactured networks; it is distinct from assembly inspection and finished-circuit functional validation.
OrinewPCB supplies and uses 100% brand-new, original, genuine electronic components in customer turnkey assemblies. Our manufacturer and distributor cooperation helps us seek competitive BOM prices and practical delivery options. Confirm full MPNs, source restrictions, documentation and current availability for your project. Proposed alternatives require your approval.
Nine PCBA quality stages
Our assembly quality workflow covers nine stages, with the applicable inspection scope agreed for the build:
- IQC: incoming material checks.
- SPI: solder paste inspection.
- Online AOI: in-line optical inspection.
- SMI: first-article inspection.
- IPQC: in-process quality checks.
- Offline AOI: post-solder optical inspection.
- X-ray: hidden-joint inspection to the agreed scope.
- Manual QC: workmanship review.
- Pre-shipment QA: identification, quantity and packaging checks.
These are nine quality stages, not nine functional tests on every assembly. Programming, ICT, functional testing and application-specific validation need agreed procedures, access or fixtures and pass/fail criteria. See our factory and quality workflow.
One review for your board, BOM and assembly release
Small-to-medium batches and high-mix turnkey PCB assembly are core OrinewPCB strengths. Ask us to review PCB fabrication, component purchasing and assembly against the same design revision. If you only need bare PCBs or specific components, identify that scope in your request.
PCB manufacturing
Approved materials and construction, with every manufactured bare board flying-probe electrically tested.
Genuine BOM sourcing
100% brand-new original genuine components, with exact MPNs and customer-approved alternatives.
Turnkey PCBA
Coordinate the board, sourcing, assembly and agreed inspection, programming or functional-test requirements.
Our cooperation with manufacturers and distributors helps us seek competitive BOM prices and practical availability. Compare complete-build quotations using the same material, BOM, quantities, documentation and test scope. Prices and delivery are confirmed for the actual release; no component substitution is assumed.

Protect the target date with a complete release
We prioritize quality and the earliest practical delivery for the agreed build. Provide quantities by model, required delivery date and any critical component restrictions. Distinguish dispatch from arrival, and identify whether a smaller first batch or staged delivery is useful. Material availability, engineering approvals, component sourcing and test readiness affect the confirmed schedule.
For an urgent project, include the non-negotiable requirements and first-build priorities. See our quick-turn planning guidance and request a schedule review with your files.

Ceramic PCB & Assembly FAQ
Is a ceramic PCB the same as a metal core PCB?
No. A ceramic substrate and an insulated metal-based construction are different material systems. Specify the actual substrate, conductive structure and interfaces needed by the design.
Are alumina and aluminum nitride interchangeable?
No. They differ in material properties and cost considerations. Use the exact approved grade and review the full assembly requirements before proposing a change.
Can I request components and assembly as well as the substrate?
Yes. Send the substrate and metallization specification, full BOM, assembly/joining requirements and tests. We review feasibility and confirm the scope before accepting the build.
Can you confirm every ceramic manufacturing process from this page?
No. State the required process and technical specification in the RFQ. Specialized substrate, metallization and joining routes need project-specific confirmation rather than a generic capability assumption.
