Select a grade, then control changes through assembly

A request such as “high Tg” leaves room for different resin systems and properties. Identify a preferred grade or the performance criteria that an alternative must meet. If delivery pressure triggers a material change, review it before production; a higher headline Tg does not automatically make an alternative suitable.

Provide the fabrication drawing, layer stack and required material properties.

Describe relevant operating temperatures and assembly/rework exposure.

Identify critical plated-through holes, dense packages and other reliability concerns.

Agree required documentation or qualification evidence separately from routine electrical testing.

For turnkey builds, align the PCB material, component handling and agreed assembly process.

Every bare PCB receives flying-probe electrical testing

OrinewPCB flying-probe tests every bare PCB we manufacture, not just a sample. This checks the conductive networks against the electrical test data. Include your netlist where available and identify any required test parameters or records in the RFQ.

An electrical pass does not establish every physical characteristic, controlled impedance, RF performance, thermal reliability or finished-product function. Specify those requirements and any additional evidence separately. This keeps the acceptance scope clear before fabrication begins.

From bare boards to genuine-component turnkey PCBA

Keep the fabrication, BOM purchasing and assembly review connected when you need a finished assembly. Small-to-medium batches and high-mix turnkey PCB assembly are a particular OrinewPCB strength. List quantities and differences for each design or variant so the release is unambiguous.

We supply and use 100% brand-new, original, genuine electronic components for customers’ turnkey assemblies. Our cooperation with manufacturers and distributors helps us seek competitive BOM pricing and practical lead times. Exact MPNs, current availability, permitted sources and delivery dates are checked for your project; alternatives require customer approval.

Nine PCBA quality stages with an agreed test scope

When the order includes assembly, our quality workflow covers nine stages. The applicable inspection plan and evidence are agreed for the actual build:

IQC: incoming materials.

SPI: solder paste inspection.

Online AOI: in-line optical inspection.

SMI: first-article inspection.

IPQC: in-process quality checks.

Offline AOI: post-solder optical inspection.

X-ray: hidden joints to the agreed scope.

Manual QC: workmanship review.

Pre-shipment QA: identification, quantity and packaging.

These are nine quality stages, not nine functional tests. Programming, ICT, functional testing or application-specific validation need an agreed procedure, access or fixtures, and pass/fail criteria. See our factory and quality workflow.

Plan delivery from the complete release package

We work toward the earliest practical delivery for the approved scope. Send the required quantity, design variants and target date, and state whether it means production completion, dispatch or arrival. Materials, engineering questions, assembly preparation and agreed tests all affect the confirmed schedule.

Compare quotations using the same material, revision, sourcing responsibility and acceptance scope. A lower bare-board or placement line item is not automatically a lower complete project cost.

Is a 170°C Tg board rated for continuous operation at 170°C?

No. Tg describes a material transition and is not the complete product’s continuous operating-temperature rating. Review the laminate’s relevant ratings and the product’s thermal and reliability requirements.

<details>

Does higher Tg always mean better thermal conductivity?

No. Tg and thermal conductivity describe different properties. If heat transfer is a design concern, specify the relevant thermal requirements separately.

Does flying-probe testing replace thermal qualification?

No. Bare-board electrical testing and thermal or reliability qualification answer different questions. State any additional qualification and evidence requirements in the RFQ.

Thick copper PCB products are used extensively in power electronic devices and power supply systems. A growing trend in the PCB industry, this unique type of heavy copper PCB features a finished copper weight of more than 4oz (140μm), compared to the 1oz (35μm) or 2oz (70μm) copper weight generally found in those with a standard PCB copper thickness.

The additional copper PCB thickness enables the board to conduct a higher current, achieve good thermal distribution and implement complex switches in a limited space. Other advantages include increased mechanical strength at connector sites, the ability to create a smaller product size by incorporating multiple weights on the same layer of circuitry and the ability to use exotic materials to their maximum capacity with minimal risk of circuit failure.

Keep RF material changes under engineering control

If the specified material is unavailable or affects the requested date, a fast substitution can create a larger engineering problem. Ask for the proposed grade, construction and technical differences before approving it. For a hybrid stack, identify which layers use which materials and the intended electrical references.

Provide the fabrication package, operating band and critical RF paths.

List controlled-impedance requirements and any coupon or report needs.

Identify the approved material and whether an engineering review of alternatives is acceptable.

For turnkey assembly, include BOM, placement, connector and shielding instructions.

Define RF validation separately from bare-board continuity and short-circuit checks.

High Frequency PCB questions

<details>

Is high frequency PCB material always PTFE?

No. RF laminate families use different material systems and offer different electrical and processing properties. Select a specific grade for your requirements rather than treating “high frequency” as one chemistry.

</details>
<details>

Does a flying-probe pass confirm impedance or insertion loss?

No. Specify impedance measurement and any RF performance verification separately, including the method, applicable nets or coupons and acceptance limits.

</details>
<details>

Can OrinewPCB quote fabrication and RF assembly together?

Yes. Share the board package, approved BOM, placement data and assembly instructions. Any RF test must have an agreed setup, procedure and limits; it should not be assumed from the assembly quote.

Blind vias connect an outer layer to an internal layer; buried vias connect internal layers without reaching an outer surface. Microvias support dense interconnection, but via depth, registration, filling and the lamination sequence must match the actual construction.
Review fabrication and component assembly as one release

Dense packages often make board fabrication and assembly interdependent. Before purchasing, check whether the routing escape, via-in-pad treatment, pad definition and component land pattern describe the same design intent. If a change is proposed, review its electrical and assembly effects before approving it.

Supply Gerber/drill files and a fabrication drawing with a clear via layer map.

Confirm the proposed stack-up before final impedance-sensitive routing is released.

Identify critical packages and provide the manufacturer land-pattern requirements.

Agree hidden-joint inspection and any programming or functional test procedure.

Freeze approved changes and keep the BOM, placement data and board files synchronized.

HDI PCB questions

<details>

Does every multilayer PCB need HDI construction?

No. Use the routing, package escape and product constraints to determine whether HDI is needed. A conventional multilayer structure may be suitable when the design can meet its requirements without build-up microvias.

</details>
<details>

Are stacked and staggered microvias interchangeable?

Do not treat them as interchangeable. Their geometry and manufacturing requirements differ. State the intended structure and approve any proposed change through the fabrication review.

</details>
<details>

Will flying-probe testing prove HDI long-term reliability?

No. Electrical testing checks the conductive networks under the agreed test conditions. It does not replace material, construction, process qualification or any reliability testing required by the product.

Choose bare-board prototypes or an assembled engineering build

A bare PCB order helps you inspect fabrication and assemble or evaluate the design yourself. A turnkey prototype combines board fabrication, component sourcing and assembly under an agreed release package. Neither route automatically proves firmware behavior, product compliance or every operating condition.

Make the prototype answer a specific engineering question

Write down the purpose of this build: checking an enclosure fit, validating a power stage, evaluating an RF path or preparing a customer demonstration. These are different acceptance tasks. A board can pass its bare-board electrical check while still requiring assembly, programming and product-level validation.

Freeze the design revision and name the files consistently.

List known risks, critical dimensions and bring-up access such as connectors or test points.

Provide full component MPNs and identify substitutions that require your approval.

Agree first-article feedback, programming and any functional procedure before assembly.

Record what changed after evaluation and release a controlled revision for the next batch.

Prototype PCB questions

<details>

Does a tested prototype PCB mean the circuit will work?

No. Bare-board electrical testing checks the manufactured conductive networks against the test data. Component selection, assembly, firmware and circuit behavior require their own verification.

</details>
<details>

Can you quote several prototype variants together?

Yes. Give each variant a clear identifier, quantity and matching files. Mark population, BOM or firmware differences so the sourcing and assembly scope can be reviewed accurately.

</details>
<details>

How quickly can you deliver prototype boards?

We seek the earliest practical schedule after reviewing the files, materials, quantity and required checks. For assembled prototypes, component availability and test preparation also affect the date. State whether your deadline means dispatch or arrival.

A standard PCB is not a universal construction or an automatic lower-grade service. The right specification depends on your circuit, assembly process and product requirements.
Move from a working prototype to a controlled repeat order

If a prototype works, retain its approved stack-up and record any changes before production. A different laminate, copper thickness or panel layout can affect the circuit or assembly process even when the Gerber artwork looks similar. Send the earlier build reference, known issues and the changes you actually want.

Release one matching revision of Gerber, drill and fabrication drawing files.

Separate mandatory requirements from preferences that can be discussed for cost or availability.

Identify quantity per design, repeat demand and delivery batches.

For assembly, add the BOM, placement data, assembly drawing and inspection or test instructions.

Standard PCB questions

<details>

Is standard PCB fabrication only for high quantities?

No. Describe your design, quantity and repeat-order plan. We review the fabrication and commercial scope for the actual project rather than applying one universal production threshold.

</details>
<details>

Are production PCB tolerances automatically tighter than prototype tolerances?

No. Tolerances must be specified and accepted for either service. A prototype and a repeat build should use the same approved requirements when consistency matters.

</details>
<details>

Can I order the bare boards first and add assembly later?

Yes. Tell us about the intended assembly process now so panelization, fiducials and other interfaces can be reviewed before the bare-board order is released.
